Spotted Towhee

How do these birds retreat from danger?

Spotted Towhees are well known for walking away rather than taking to flight when alarmed. In fact, when a nesting female is disturbed, she may run away like a mouse rather than fly. This species nests and scavenges for food on the ground.

A group is known as a “tangle” or a “teapot” of towhees.
